The University System of Georgia (USG)'s Board of Regents has appointed College of Computing Professor Seymour E. Goodman as Regents Professor.

The title represents the highest academic and research recognition bestowed by the USG, demonstrating distinction and achievement in teaching and scholarly research. Goodman is one of three professors and one researcher at Georgia Tech to receive the honor this year.

Goodman is a 16-year veteran of the Institute, serving a joint appointment between the Sam Nunn School of International Affairs and the School of Computer Science (SCS). He is also co-director of the Center for International Strategy, Technology, and Policy. His research interests span topics such as international developments in the information technologies (IT), to national security and related public policy issues. Goodman is the third SCS professor to receive the Regent title and the seventh professor for the College of Computing.

Bras, provost and executive vice president for Academic Affairs and the K. Harrison Brown Family Chair. “This new distinction is a testament to their continued commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and scholarship.”

Each year, academic deans may nominate two academic faculty members for the Regents Professor title and one research faculty member for the Regents Researcher title. Regent titles are awarded upon approval of the chancellor and the Committee on Academic Affairs. Candidates must receive the unanimous recommendation of the president, the chief academic officer, the appropriate academic dean, and three other faculty members.

The Board of Regents is the University System of Georgia governing body.
