Georgia Tech and CDC partner to foster collaborative research

Primary tabs

Georgia Tech and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced the CDC/Georgia Tech Research Awards, which will provide funding to foster scientific collaboration among Georgia Tech and CDC investigators.

This joint effort will provide seed funding for collaborative research in at least two of the following priority areas:

a)     Public health (e.g. infectious diseases, chronic diseases, injury and environmental health, global health, emergency preparedness and response);

b)     Human-centered health and wellness technologies (e.g. behavioral intervention technologies; personal health records; first-response technologies for disaster relief; patient-facing interventions); and

c)     Health information technology within the healthcare delivery system (e.g. next generation EMRs; patient data security and management; e-Prescribing (eRx); chronic disease registries; clinical decision support systems (CDS)).

The proposed research must focus on the priority areas listed above, and applicants are strongly encouraged to align their research proposals with the CDC Winnable Battles program.

In conjunction with this partnership, the Institute for People and Technology (IPaT) is hosting a lecture entitled “BioSense 2.0: Collecting, Aggregating and Analyzing Health Data” by Taha Kass-Hout, M.D., M.S (Director, Division of Informatics Solutions and Operations, CDC) on October 9, 2012, at 3 PM in the Technology Square Research Building (TSRB) auditorium.  A networking reception for the CDC and Georgia Tech health systems research community will take place at the IPaT (Suite 600, 6th floor) immediately following the lecture.
