  <title><![CDATA[Georgia Tech and CDC partner to foster collaborative research]]></title>
  <body><![CDATA[<p>Georgia Tech and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced the CDC/Georgia Tech Research Awards, which will provide funding to foster scientific collaboration among Georgia Tech and CDC investigators.</p><p>This joint effort will provide&nbsp;seed funding for&nbsp;collaborative research&nbsp;in at least&nbsp;two&nbsp;of the following priority areas:</p><p>a)&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <strong>Public health</strong> (e.g. infectious diseases, chronic&nbsp;diseases, injury and environmental health, global health, emergency&nbsp;preparedness and response);&nbsp;</p><p>b)&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <strong>Human-centered health and wellness technologies </strong>(e.g. behavioral&nbsp;intervention technologies; personal health records;&nbsp;first-response technologies for disaster relief;&nbsp;patient-facing&nbsp;interventions); and</p><p>c)&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <strong>Health information technology within the healthcare&nbsp;delivery system</strong> (e.g.&nbsp;next&nbsp;generation EMRs; patient data&nbsp;security and management; e-Prescribing (eRx); chronic disease&nbsp;registries;&nbsp;clinical decision support systems (CDS)).&nbsp;</p><p>The proposed research must focus on the priority areas listed above, and applicants are strongly encouraged to align their research proposals with the <a href="http://www.cdc.gov/WinnableBattles/index.html">CDC Winnable Battles program</a>.</p><p>In conjunction with this partnership, the Institute for People and Technology (<a href="http://www.ipat.gatech.edu">IPaT</a>) is hosting a lecture entitled “<a href="http://ipat.gatech.edu/events/cdc-biosense-20-presentation">BioSense 2.0: Collecting, Aggregating&nbsp;and&nbsp;Analyzing Health Data</a>” by Taha Kass-Hout, M.D., M.S (Director, Division of Informatics Solutions and Operations, CDC) on October 9, 2012, at 3 PM in the Technology Square Research Building (TSRB) auditorium.&nbsp; A networking reception for the CDC and Georgia Tech health systems research community will take place at the IPaT (Suite 600, 6<sup>th</sup> floor) immediately following the lecture.</p><p><br /> For more information on the CDC/Georgia Tech Research Awards program please visit:</p><p>(<a href="http://ipat.gatech.edu/gt-cdc-seed-grants" title="http://ipat.gatech.edu/gt-cdc-seed-grants">http://ipat.gatech.edu/gt-cdc-seed-grants</a>)</p><p>For more information on the CDC Winnable Battles program please visit:</p><p>(<a href="http://www.cdc.gov/WinnableBattles/index.html" title="http://www.cdc.gov/WinnableBattles/index.html">http://www.cdc.gov/WinnableBattles/index.html</a>)</p><p>&nbsp;</p>]]></body>
