The Georgia Tech Office of the Arts will host an Open House on Thursday, September 6 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Ferst Center for the Arts.  “Private Presidential Pathways,” a photography exhibition by New York Times photographer George Tames, will be open for viewing in the Ferst Center Galleries, along with several activities to give students a window to the arts experiences available on campus this year.

At the Open House students can:

• Learn about performance opportunities with Drama Tech, vocal and instrumental music, digital media, poetry, dance and arts and crafts.
• Learn about shows and exhibits coming to campus.
• Purchase tickets to shows at the Ferst Center including The Daily Show’s Indecision Tour, Chick Corea, Keiko Matsui, TAIKOPROJECT and more.
• Tour Private Presidential Pathways – 40 years of White House photographs from Franklin D. Roosevelt to George H.W. Bush.
• Learn about the Woodruff Arts Pass – a great way to enjoy the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, the Alliance Theatre and High Museum of Art exclusive to Georgia Tech students.  Passes will be on sale.
• Free lunch and drinks.

Private Presidential Pathways: The Photography of George Tames

Acclaimed New York Times photographer George Tames changed the way that America looked at presidents and other political figures in Washington, D.C.  Curated by his daughter, Georgia artist Stephanie Tames, this exhibition features 28 candid and revealing images of former presidents that give a private glimpse into the lives of some of our nation's most prestigious leaders.  The 28 black and white photographs span 40 years from the presidency of Franklin D. Roosevelt to George H.W. Bush and feature several iconic images, including John Kennedy leaning on the windowsill of the Oval Office and Richard Nixon waving goodbye after his impeachment.

Presented by the Georgia Tech Office of the Arts as a complement to the political season, the exhibit runs September to October 2012 and is on view at the September 6 Open House, during public performances and by scheduling an appointment at 404-894-2787 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Admission is free. The Georgia Tech Office of the Arts, the faculty-led Council of the Arts and an Arts Advisory Board comprised of alumni and community members were formed over the summer as part of an ongoing strategic initiative effort to foster creativity and enhance the campus arts environment.  The Council of the Arts is chaired by Prof. Aaron Bobick and the Office of the Arts is led by Director George Thompson. Major projects underway include the development of a new “Arts@Tech” website and a TechArts Festival in April.
