Scott Weathers is the Associate Director of Government Affairs at Americans for Responsible Innovation (ARI), where he leads ARI's work on gene synthesis screening and AIxBio issues. Previously, he worked as a Congressional staffer in the offices of 3 House Representatives and ran for state legislative office. He also led the Good Food Institute's legislative strategy across 50 states. His work has been published or discussed in the NYT, Vox, Guardian and more. Scott earned his undergraduate degree from American University and his masters from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.

​Scott will be talking about his work pushing for biosecurity legislation and how AI is becoming an increasingly important consideration and concern for such policies. He will also talk about how researchers can influence policy, and provide career advice for folks interested in policy.
