SharePoint Lists & Libraries: Best Practices for Content Management
Primary tabs
Join us for an informative session on using SharePoint Lists and Libraries to manage content more effectively, presented by Robb Lioy, Microsoft Cloud Solution Architect. This intermediate session goes beyond basic file storage and sharing, showing you how to unlock SharePoint’s built-in apps for tracking information and collaborate smarter with your team. This session will focus on practical techniques to organize, format, and link content in SharePoint that many users haven’t discovered.
In this session, you will learn:
- How to create and customize SharePoint Lists (using list apps like Issue Tracker or Contacts) to replace spreadsheets for team data tracking.
- Ways to use advanced list features, including conditional formatting rules to highlight important info.
- How to build connections between lists with lookup columns (pulling info from one list into another) and perform calculations with calculated columns (e.g. automatically calculating a “Days Remaining” date field).
- Best practices for managing documents in Libraries: enable version history, use check-in/check-out for collaborative editing control, and add metadata columns to categorize files for easier filtering.
- How to reuse an existing SharePoint list as a template, and how it integrates with the Microsoft Lists app and Teams for easy access and editing from anywhere, including on mobile devices, with support for alerts and notifications.
Whether you’ve been using SharePoint for a while or are just starting to explore beyond OneDrive, this session will equip you with tips and tricks to better organize content and collaborate. You’ll see real examples (like tracking projects and tasks using lists, instead of email) that you can immediately apply to your own work. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn how SharePoint’s list and library tools can make your team more efficient and organized! We look forward to seeing you there.
Note: This session will be recorded for those unable to attend live.
