Analyzing Interplay of Metacognition, Cognitive Presence, and Course Performance in MOOCs and Master Course Forums
Primary tabs
In this session, the C21U research team, Meryem Yilmaz Soylu, research scientist, and Jonna Lee, director of research in education innovation, will present their "Best Paper Nominee" research on the link between metacognition, cognitive presence, and student success in MOOCs and graduate-level online courses. They will discuss how they identified key metacognitive processes, such as planning, monitoring, and evaluation, and how they correlated between cognitive presence and academic outcomes through content analysis. Additionally, they will explain how using metacognitive strategies consistently impacts the success of both MOOC and graduate students despite demonstrating different patterns of metacognition and cognitive presence.
