Researching the uses of nanotechnology in medicine is challenging — but so is explaining how it works in basic terms in less than three minutes. 

But, Nusaiba Baker has succeeded at both, winning first place in the Ph.D. category at the final round of Georgia Tech’s 2018 Three Minute Thesis competition. Her presentation was titled, "Oral Delivery of DNA-enzyme Nanoparticles Ameliorates Inflammation in a Murine Model of Ulcerative Colitis."

Baker, a doctoral student in Biomedical Engineering, competed against several other Ph.D. students and three master’s students in the final round of the competition on Nov. 7.

The following Ph.D. and master’s students also won prizes ranging from $500 to $2,000:

• People’s Choice Award: Megan Tomko, Mechanical Engineering
  Academic Makerspaces: Sites of Learning for Women Students
