Georgia Tech Employees Co-Author LGBTQ+ Resource

Primary tabs

Ashlee Flinn (Office of International Education) and Aby Parsons (Student Life) helped write an online resource designed to help education abroad professionals prepare students who identify as LGBTQ+ for their education abroad experiences. This resource was created by the EA Diversity and Inclusion Subcommittee.

This resource is designed to help Education Abroad professionals prepare students who identify as LGBTQ+ for their education abroad endeavor. It touches on LGBTQ+ terminology, things to consider when advising students, how to have sensitive conversations, how to collaborate with colleagues, how to direct students to resources on campus, and challenges that LGBTQ+ students may face when studying abroad. In addition to that, the authors have compiled a list of other resources for education abroad professionals to use, including articles and stories from LGBTQ+ students who have studied abroad, scholarships available to LGBTQ+ students, and other advising resources. You can read the full publication here: http://www.nafsa.org/Content.aspx?id=58162.

Ashlee Flinn is the Education Abroad Scholarships Advisor & Marketing Specialist at the Office of International Education. Aby Parsons is the Director of the LGBTQI Resource Center.

Ashlee and Aby will be hosting a LGBTQIA Study Abroad Information Session on November 2nd at 11am in the Student Center, Room 332. If students would like to participate, they should RSVP here: http://lgbtqia.gatech.edu/lgbtqia-study-abroad-workshop-series.
