ESE3 features Deng's work on biomass to power

Primary tabs

Professor Yulin Deng, ChBE, was recently published in Chemistry Views magazine. His paper, "Wheat straw goes with the flow to make electricity," tackles the direct conversion of biomass into electricity with a fuel cell.

Dr. Deng highlights that biomass is the most common renewable energy form. They point out that research has focused on the development of low-cost, efficient, and effective methods for converting biological waste products from agriculture, the food industry and elsewhere into energy-rich fuels. The paper also details a cleaner conversion and low-cost electricity from waste.

Three RBI Fellows advised by Deng assisted with this work - Wei Liu, Xu Du and Zhe Zhang, all ChBE post-docs.
