Georgia Tech Architecture Program Celebrates Centennial

Primary tabs

The Architecture Program at Georgia Tech will celebrate a century of architectural education with a series of events throughout the 2008-2009 academic year. Commemorating outstanding contributions of Georgia Tech architects in Atlanta and around the world, the lecture series, exhibitions and symposia will be free and open to the public.

The celebration will commence on Wednesday, August 27 with a lecture delivered by John Portman, FAIA (Arch 1950), and the opening of a three-part historical exhibition of student work developed by architecture professor Elizabeth Dowling and student Lisa Thomason.

"The impact alumni and faculty have made on the practice of architecture in Atlanta and around the world is truly extraordinary," said program director Ellen Dunham-Jones. "We want to offer opportunities for our community to explore how this rich history has affected daily life, but also to get involved with the future directions of architectural education at Georgia Tech which range from classical design to digital manufacturing and sustainability."
