The College of Computing’s Programming Team competed on Feb. 17 in the Annual Spring Programming Contest, hosted by Mercer University in Macon, Ga. The College fielded four teams, placing 1st, 3rd, 4th and 6th out of 29 teams.  Our first-place team was particularly successful, solving two more problems than the second place team.

Mercer has hosted the event for the past six years for schools in the region (Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee). It is a five-hour contest featuring eight to 11 problems, modeled closely on the ACM competition. The contest had a good selection of 11 problems with topics ranging from graph theory to dynamic programming, geometry to simulations.  Our first place team was very successful, solving two more problems than the second place team. The College teams were coached by Topraj Gurung, a Ph.D. candidate in computer science who was pleased with all of the teams’ performances. We look forward to the success of our team at the ACM Southeast Regional competition in October 2010!
