Data & Materials Chalk-Talk: Structure Property Linkages in Fiber Composites - Speaker: Alicia Rossi

Primary tabs

Date: Thursday, January 21, 2016

Time: 11am-12pm
Place: Klaus 1116 East

Speaker: Alicia Rossi, 2nd year FLAMEL Trainee

Title: “Structure Property Linkages in Fiber Composites”

Abstract:

High performance materials requires a strong understanding of the material properties.  The complex structure of composites make the material properties difficult to predict without a thorough understanding of the structure of the materials.  Advancements and challenges in structure propery linkages will be discussed.

Bio:

Alicia Rossi is a Ph.D. student in the School of Material Science and Engineering at Georgia Tech, working with Dr. Surya Kalidindi. Her undergraduate degree is in Polymer and Fiber Engineering from Tech. Her research interests involve investigating the mechanical properties of polymeric materials that cannot be investigated by traditional means. She is particularly interested in the interface properties of composites. The properties of thin films on substrates are also of significant interest. Using a combination of imaging techniques and nanoindentation, she is investigating correlations between variations in the material and variations in mechanical properties.
