Students Answer Honor Code Questions on Reddit

Primary tabs

On Wednesday, April 8, students from the Honorary Advisory Council (HAC) at Georgia Tech are taking to Reddit, the online social media community, to educate their peers about the Institute’s Honor Code.

As part of Honor Week, the group will host an Ask Me Anything (AMA) open forum on Reddit. HAC members will be on hand from 7 to 11 p.m. at www.reddit.com/r/gatech to answer questions submitted online by other students.

“We are hoping to increase awareness about the intricacies of the Honor Code,” said HAC member Kenji Tanaka. “By encouraging people to think about the Honor Code, even for a moment, we can ensure the campus remains an environment of integrity and trust.”

The forum, which will continue to maintain a presence on Reddit to serve as a resource for future reference, will enable students to ask questions anonymously (though users will need to create a Reddit account) and freely discuss the Honor Code with each other.

“We hope the format will embolden people to ask questions they may be afraid or embarrassed to ask in person,” Tanaka said.

HAC is made up of undergraduate and graduate students who are well versed in the Honor Code and function as advisors to students and faculty. HAC members also serve as a confidential resource for students needing questions answered about academic misconduct or who may be working through incidents with the Office of Student Integrity. HAC members do not, however, participate in investigations.
