The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in November officially announced the winners of its 2012-14 STAR Fellowships. This year's recipients included SCaRP PhD student Nathanael (Nate) Hoelzel . His research examines local governance and brownfield redevelopment for sustainable manufacturing and economic development in inner-city neighborhoods. The fellowship, which covers tuition and fees and includes a yearly stipend, totals $84,000 over two years.

Prior to Tech, Nate Hoelzel managed Cleveland, Ohio’s, industrial-commercial land bank and brownfield redevelopment programs. Nate earned a B.S. degree in Environmental, Safety, and Occupational Health Management from the University of Findlay in 2002, and a Master’s in Community Planning from the University of Cincinnati in 2004.
