A Student Perspective

Primary tabs

Three recent GT Study Abroad students answer the question: Why do you think it is important for Georgia Tech students to study abroad?

“Having a broad view of the world and being able to understand and relate to the cultures of others is paramount to success in our global society. Even if you plan on spending the majority of your life in the U.S., the perspective gained allows you to better relate to others and look at problems in a more objective way.”

- Bryce Ferguson

3rd Year, Industrial Engineering

Studied Abroad:  Spring 2012, GT’s Exchange Partner, INSA Lyon, in France

“Georgia Tech markets itself as a fantastic college for international perspective and experiences. With so many options to learn about diversity and other cultures both on and off campus, not studying abroad would be losing one of the richest facets of a Georgia Tech education. In addition, a career in technology demands international knowledge because it is becoming an extremely globalized field; to be competitive in industry, international understanding and competence is essential.”

-Elizabeth L. Carpenter

2nd Year, Biomedical Engineering

Studied Abroad: Summer 2012, GT’s Spanish LBAT (Language for Business and Technology) Program

“Study abroad is important because it really builds perspective. You realize that not everything is like the U.S.! Being exposed to a whole new culture helps you grow and mature as a person…I think everyone needs to experience this kind of growth.”

-Sooji Lee
