Introducing the International Plan, Version 2.0

Primary tabs

Most recently recognized nationally by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation for Outstanding Institutional Practiced in Student Learning Outcomes (CHEA Award 2012), the Georgia Tech International Plan provides students a unique opportunity to pursue an international perspective for their Georgia Tech degree.

The International Plan is a challenging undergraduate academic program aimed at developing a student’s global competence within the context of his/her major. It is a degree-long program that integrates international experiences, language acquisition and intercultural learning into any participating major at Georgia Tech. The result is students who develop a global understanding of their major while learning about the complex cultural, economic and social contexts in which they will work post-graduation.

Increasingly, employers are seeking to hire graduates who are globally competent and can who can operate in diverse cultural settings. Through the International Plan, students can develop the professional and personal skills and knowledge needed to be a global leader in their field.

Following the fifth-year anniversary of Georgia Tech’s International Plan, the Vice Provost for International Initiatives formed a task force to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the program. The task force examined all aspects of the existing plan and recommend changes and other improvements to enhance the overall experience for students enrolled in the International Plan.

This review resulted in the International Plan, Version 2.0.  In the new version of the program, the regulations have been streamlined, making it easier for students to keep track of their advancement in the program. The program has also been made more flexible, permitting International Plan faculty representatives to individually approve the appropriateness of a student’s plan to their overall major.

The new version of the International Plan will allow for more students to gain the full benefit of the program by completing and graduating with this special degree designator.
