Primary tabs

Flávio Villaca (MCP ’58, a student of Howard Menhinick’s) wrote to us last week to announce his appointment as Professor Emeritus at the University of Sao Paulo in Brazil. Villaca is only the second person ever to be given that title in the School of Architecture and Urban Planning at USP.

In addition to the MCP from Tech, Villaca has a BS in Architecture and a PhD in Urban Geography, both earned at USP. He was a post-doc at the University of California, Berkeley working in Richard Walker’s lab in 1985. Villaca taught at USP from 1974 to 1998, becoming Professor in 1991 and retiring in 1998.  During his career he advised 42 doctoral and 36 master’s degree students.

Among his many writings is the book, Espaço Intra Urbano no Brasil (Intra urban space in Brazil), now in its fourth edition.

You may find his web site of interest (especially if you read Portuguese):  http://www.flaviovillaca.arq.br/

Villaca may be reached by e-mail at:  flavila@uol.com.br.
