HPRG: Dialogue Continues for Healthy Places

Primary tabs

What is the Healthy Places Research Group?
The Healthy Places Research Group (HPRG), started in 2003 and winner of the 2005 Atlanta PEDS Golden Shoe Award for Pedestrian-Friendly Research, brings together various disciplines in an ongoing dialogue to create Healthy Places. HPRG is a collaborative effort involving Emory University's Rollins School of Public Health and Georgia Tech's College of Architecture and the Center for Quality Growth and Regional Development. It also involves professionals from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), researchers, students, community leaders, and others interested in exploring the co-relationship between the built environment and the health of communities. It has resulted in a growing awareness and understanding of the relationship between health and the built environment and has created partnerships to conduct research and projects.

Who are HPRG members?
Participation is open to anyone interested in exploring the characteristics and advancement of healthy places and attendance at each month's session is between 30 and 40 people. Members include professionals and community leaders with multidisciplinary interests, including planning, public health, architecture, engineering, public policy, public administration, economics, community advocacy, and other specialties.

When does HPRG meet?
The HPRG meets once a month from September to May to discuss issues and exchange information pertaining to health policy and impacts. The meetings run from 7:30 to 9 a.m.
