HPRG: National use of HIAs

Primary tabs

Aaron Wernham, Project Director of the Health Impact Assessment Coordinating Center at the Pew Charitable Trusts, will speak on national efforts to expand the use of Health Impact Assessments (HIAs).

About the Pew Health Impact Project
The Health Impact Project call for proposals (CFP) is seeking applicants to undertake health impact assessment (HIA) demonstration projects. The goal of the CFP and subsequent HIAs is to demonstrate the effectiveness of HIAs and promote their incorporation into local, state, tribal, and federal decision-making. Government agencies, educational institutions and nonprofit organizations are encouraged to apply. Successful applicants will receive grants of $25,000 to $150,000.

HIAs bring together relevant public input, available data and a range of qualitative and quantitative methods to anticipate the potential health consequences of a proposed policy, program or project. They are a structured yet flexible process for developing practical recommendations that decision makers can use to advance well-informed public policies, programs and projects that avoid unintended health consequences and unexpected costs.
