HPRG: Healthy Food Environments

Primary tabs

How does the food environment affect obesity rates? What happens when a family goes hungry? How do you evaluate the nutritional quality of local food offerings? How do you make fruits and vegetables more affordable and more readily available? Our three speakers will help answer these questions.

Panelists:
o Donna DaCaille, MS, RD, LD, lead facilitator for the Georgia Food Policy Council. The council consists of stakeholders representing the food system, whose primary goal is to increase access to healthy food across Georgia.
o Margaret Clawson, MPH, NEMS (Nutrition Environment Measures Survey) Master Trainer and the Project Coordinator for NEMS, University of Pennsylvania. NEMS allows researchers and practitioners to assess the food environment for nutrition and affordability.
o Ayanna Williams, Director of Community Building, Park Pride. Community Gardens are a great way to build relationships with your neighbors, revitalize public spaces, have access to healthy, affordable foods and create an enjoyable activity for people of all ages. Park Pride helps establish Community Gardens in City parks across Atlanta.

This event is hosted by the Healthy Places Research Group. Coffee, juice, and breakfast snacks will be served.
