Richard Margiotta will present a lecture on "Travel Time Reliability: What It Is and Why It Matters" on Dec.1 as part of the University Transportation Center, Georgia Transportation Institute Luncheon Seminar Series. A box lunch will be provided.

Abstract
Travel time reliability is a relatively new concept for the transportation profession. In this presentation, Dr. Margiotta will discuss:

• how travel time reliability came into the transportation lexicon;
• the various ways researchers have chosen to define and measure it;
• data and modeling requirements; and
• valuation of travel time reliability.

The presentation draws heavily on Margiotta’s own research as well as recent results from the SHRP 2 program.

Bio
Richard Margiotta, is a principal with Cambridge Systematics. He has 29 years of experience in transportation planning and engineering, and has held positions at the Transportation Research Board, University of Tennessee, SAIC and the Knoxville Metropolitan Planning Organization. He received PhD and master's degrees in civil engineering from the University of Tennessee and a bachelor's degree in biol­ogy from the State University of New York at Albany. His recent work has focused on congestion monitoring, performance management and travel time reliability.
