TITLE: Statistics Research for IBM Smarter Planet Business Analytics

ABSTRACT:

This talk starts with providing an introductory overview of IBM Research, and then presents some of current statistical research projects at IBM. Smarter Planet and Business Analytics have been two of the strategically focused areas for IBM in recent years. Smarter Planet projects are mainly for better and proactive management of a large physical system by analyzing various measurements taken over space and time. For business analytics, IBM has been developing software and consulting offerings that include advanced analytical methodology. Statistical research conducted in our department is aligned closely with these strategic areas for IBM. In this talk, a few specific research projects are described. In particular, the development of new spatial-temporal analytical algorithms relevant for both areas is discussed.
