Tips to Prepare You in a Digital World

Primary tabs

Has your computer ever been infected by a virus? Unfortunately, most people have had this experience. It is common for people to store and access sensitive information, such as bank accounts, on their computers. If your machine is not protected, you may be leaving your information vulnerable to cyber criminals. There are simple things that you can do to protect your information and your operating systems at home and in the workplace.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) recommends the following tips for protecting your computer:

  • Keep your firewall turned on.

  • Install or update your antivirus software.

  • Install or update your antispyware technology.

  • Keep your operating system up to date.

  • Be careful what you download.

  • Turn off your computer.

Visit the FBI website at www.fbi.gov for additional cyber security tips and resources.

The Georgia Tech Office of Emergency Preparedness encourages the campus community to be prepared in all aspects of their daily lives. Take time during National Preparedness Month to ensure that you are taking the necessary precautions to secure yourself, your information and your belongings. Visit the Emergency Preparedness website at www.emergencypreparedness.gatech.edu for more information.
