HR Offers Training Opportunities for Staffers

Primary tabs

The start of fall semester is a time for new beginnings — which makes it the perfect time for staff members to enroll in one of the many professional development programs offered by Human Resources.

“We are proud that people gain value from the programs,” said Lanous Wright, director of training. “Our programs focus on growing the individual and supporting the Institute’s strategic goal of ‘relentlessly pursuing institutional effectiveness.’”

During the last five years, Georgia Tech has averaged 150 graduates of certificate programs and a total of more than 1,300 graduates since the inception of the first certificate program almost a decade ago.

Some of the most frequently attended programs are:

  • Management and Supervisory. Broadens knowledge and skills essential to successful management and supervision of personnel. Designed for mid- to higher-level managers.
  • Emerging Leaders. Provides extended career development opportunities for graduates of the Management and Supervisory program.
  • Office Professional. Focuses on essential interpersonal skills necessary to be successful in the workplace and includes advanced-level training in managing priorities and working with others.
  • Defining Customer Service. Improves the services the Institute provides by making them faster, friendlier and easier.
  • Information Security. Provides additional knowledge and skills to secure information technology resources in the campus units.
  • Emergency Preparedness. Equips participants with tools they need in the event of a campus emergency.

Courses are available during working hours. Employees interested in participating should seek supervisor approval. In addition to certificate programs, a variety of other training opportunities are available, including brown bags and online tutorial development programs.

“In accordance with the strategic plan, we are focused on improving the overall supervisor-employee relationship and on helping employees to optimize their productivity and performance,” Wright said. “New programming is targeted to begin this fall, so stay tuned.”
