Summary

The objective of the proposed research is to extend the traditional Rotman lens beamformer concept to three dimensions to enable wideband beam scanning in planar antenna arrays. The target frequency range is 4–12 GHz, covering the C-band and X-band. Because beamforming cavity designs cannot achieve more than four exact focal points, numerical optimization will be used to develop designs based on approximate focal points. The approach will be further enhanced by incorporating phase-correcting structures within the beamforming cavities. The goal is to improve existing wideband feed systems for planar array antennas capable of generating multiple simultaneous beams.
