P.E.O. Scholar Awards are one-time, competitive, merit-based awards recognizing academic excellence by women in doctoral-level programs. The award amount referenced for this cycle is $25,000; the exact number and dollar amount of awards are set each year based on available funds.

How this award works

This is a nomination-based award. Students do not apply directly to P.E.O. International. Chapter B-P.E.O., based in Atlanta, accepts applications from Georgia Tech students, reviews them, and interviews candidates. The candidate Chapter B selects then completes an online application to P.E.O. International.

Eligibility

• Must be a citizen or legal permanent resident of the U.S. or Canada.
• Must hold at least a bachelor's degree and be enrolled at an accredited U.S. or Canadian college or university.
• Expected graduation date for the doctoral-level degree must fall between April 2028 and August 2029.
• Must be enrolled full-time during the award year, specifically Fall 2027 and Spring 2028.
• Not eligible: master's degrees, certificate programs, residencies, fellowships, specializations, and postdoctoral research.

What to submit to Nominating Chapter by October 5

• Your CV, including email address, telephone number, address, and expected graduation date.
• One recommendation letter from a professor.
• A one- to two-page single-spaced statement describing your research in terms a non-expert can understand. Include papers, presentations, or other contributions to your field, and the impact you hope your research will have on society. 
  • Briefly state your career goals and your involvement in community work, volunteer work, or social and academic organizations at Tech, in Atlanta, or elsewhere. 
  • If applicable, note how you have helped advance opportunities for women through mentorship or education programs.

Timeline

• October 5, 2026 — Materials due to Chapter B P.E.O.
• November 20, 2026 — P.E.O. International closes chapter nominations
• 45 days after nomination — Nominee's completed application due to P.E.O. International
• May 1, 2027 — All nominees notified of award status
• August 1, 2027 — First award payment to recipients

Awards are paid in two installments. The first is issued upon confirmation of enrollment; the second follows confirmation of continuing enrollment and a first progress report due no later than January 31.
