Forest to Fiber: Volunteer Harvest Day (Session 1)
Primary tabs
Forest to Fiber: Volunteer Harvest Day (Session 1) will take place on Saturday, May 16, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The workshop is led by Trees Atlanta staff, including Forest Restoration Coordinator Sav Tello and Field Botany Program Manager James Ojascastro.
Participants will meet at the historic Connally Family Cemetery in East Point, a site currently impacted by invasive species such as paper mulberry trees. During the session, volunteers will assist in removing these plants while harvesting their fibers for papermaking.
The program blends environmental restoration with education, teaching attendees how invasive plant bark can be repurposed into paper. While this session focuses on harvesting, additional sessions in the series will cover the papermaking process.
