Summary

This proposal aims to develop a flexible, robust, and monolithic Silicon Carbide (SiC)-based platform for an integrated metaphotonic probe that selectively stimulates brain tissue for optogenetic stimulation and records the resulting neuronal activity. The work combines novel integrated metaphotonic-based wavefront engineering to create ultra-compact, manufacturable optical components for a probe that can route light from an external fiber, distribute it on chip, and emit it with a controlled spatial profile for targeted neural interaction.
