The New Hybrid: From AI Tools to Pedagogical Systems

Primary tabs

Join us on Thursday, May 14, 2026, for The New Hybrid: From AI Tools to Pedagogical Systems, a lecture by Mairéad Pratschke exploring the future of AI in education.

In this talk, Pratschke examines the rapid evolution of generative AI—from simple conversational tools to autonomous systems capable of reasoning, acting, and learning. She argues that this shift transforms AI from a classroom aid into a foundational part of educational infrastructure. Drawing on insights from neuroscience and learning design, she highlights the importance of structure, sequencing, and cognitive challenge in effective learning—and the risks of removing these elements through poorly aligned AI use.

Pratschke introduces Generativism, her approach to designing learning in collaboration with AI, alongside three key frameworks: a contextual model addressing cognitive, learner, pedagogical, and technical dimensions; TPAIK, an evolution of the TPACK framework; and the Agentic Community of Inquiry (ACoI), which supports multi-agent learning environments.

As AI continues to expand into immersive, experience-driven systems, this talk emphasizes the growing role of educators as designers of AI-powered learning environments. It offers valuable insights for anyone interested in the intersection of technology, education, and the future of learning.
