Eligible PhD students who have completed their graduate coursework by the start of the award are encouraged to apply. Applicants must remain enrolled full-time throughout the fellowship period and may not hold a comparable industry-funded award.

Eligibility

• Must have completed graduate coursework in their PhD by the academic award year when the Fellowship begins
• Must remain enrolled full-time in the PhD program for the duration of the Fellowship or forfeit the award

Not Eligible

• Google employees and their spouses, children, and household members
• Students already supported by a comparable industry award (government or non-profit funding is exempt)
• Past awardees of the Google PhD Fellowship

Required Materials (see Google PhD Fellowship for full details)

1. CV (including links to website/publications)
2. Research/Dissertation proposal (max 3 pages, excluding references)
3. Two essays (350 words each):
   • Research impact and motivation
   • Leadership experience
4. Academic transcripts (current and previous institutions)
5. Advisor’s CV (1 page)
6. 2–3 letters of recommendation (at least one from the thesis advisor)

For internal submission

• Name and affiliation of one recommender (in addition to the advisor) required
• Full letters are optional at this stage
• Advisor letter is highly recommended

Number of Nominations per School

• Each university is limited to four (4) nominations
• Schools/Departments may submit no more than two (2) nominations to the internal competition
• Nominations must go through the student’s home School/Department
