Celestial Treasures: Rare Astronomy Books from the Georgia Tech Library

Join the Georgia Tech Library on Thursday, February 5 from 12:00–1:30 PM in the Scholars Event Theater (First Floor, Price Gilbert Library) for Celestial Treasures: Rare Astronomy Books from the Georgia Tech Library.
This event features a conversation between Dr. John Christian, Associate Professor and Associate Chair for Graduate Programs in the School of Aerospace Engineering, and Alison Reynolds, Instruction Archivist and Special Collections Curator. Together, they will discuss the intersections of rare books and science, and why historical astronomical works remain vital to our understanding of space today.
Following the discussion, participants will engage in a hands-on exploration of rare books from the Georgia Tech Library’s Archives and Special Collections. From early star maps and comet illustrations to detailed lunar imagery, the materials span three centuries of astronomical research, offering insight into how technological advances have shaped humanity’s view of the cosmos.
