Robotech Hackathon 2026
Primary tabs
The Robotech Hackathon returns to Georgia Tech from Thursday, January 22 to Sunday, January 25, 2026, bringing together student engineers for a fast-paced, 36-hour robotics competition. Hosted by the IEEE Student Chapter, the event challenges teams of four to design, build, and test robots capable of completing a wide range of terrain-navigation and interaction tasks. Teams must combine creativity, engineering skill, and strategy to maximize their score during competition runs.
Participants can choose from three tracks—Autonomous, Controller/Communication, and Beginner—each offering a unique focus on robotics fundamentals or advanced capabilities such as computer vision, RF communication, or human-robot interaction. As the event approaches, a detailed point rubric will be released, guiding teams on how elements of their robot and completed tasks will be evaluated. On the final day, projects are showcased and judged by a panel, giving students the chance to demonstrate technical excellence and innovation.
Open to undergraduate and graduate students, as well as university students within driving distance of Georgia Tech, the hackathon is completely free to join. Competitors receive meals, a free t-shirt, and access to a collaborative, high-energy environment. IEEE @ GT also incorporates eco-friendly practices, including sustainable tableware and donating unused food after the event. The Robotech Hackathon continues to be a highlight for students passionate about robotics, engineering design, and hands-on problem-solving.
