Materials Challenges for Sustainable Cosmetics
Abstract: Sustainability is crucial in the cosmetics industry, requiring a full life cycle assessment of products. Our research focuses on developing innovative materials, especially sustainable polymers, that balance environmental impact with cosmetic performance. We explore polymers derived from biotechnology and assess their biodegradation and end-of-life challenges. Digital tools and simulations aid in improving material sustainability, along with efforts to source abundant natural minerals. Additionally, we are exploring sustainable packaging options, including fossil-free plastics, glass, and aluminum.
