The objective of the proposed research is to develop a proof-of-concept method for molecular-level microwave jamming, specifically targeting the molecular recognition between uranine, an antigen, and anti-fluorescein isothiocyanate (anti-FITC), its antibody. The methodology involves using a quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) system to measure frequency shifts that correlate with molecular events, leveraging microwave rotational spectroscopy to identify a precise interaction frequency, and employing a radio jamming setup to introduce interference. The experimental design includes controls to distinguish specific molecular interactions from nonspecific bindings and uses the molecular ambiguity function to relate molecular recognition processes to communication theory, conceptualizing molecular recognition as analogous to a wireless network. The hypothesis is that microwave jamming will significantly reduce the binding efficiency between uranine and anti-FITC, as evidenced by a measurable decrease in their association rate constant. This disruption is expected to occur due to the absorption of microwave energy by the antigen, interfering with its recognition by the antibody. The scientific contributions of this research include laying the groundwork for controlling molecular interactions with electromagnetic fields and integrating communication theory to probe and disrupt specific molecular recognition mechanisms. The proposed pioneering technique opens new pathways for applications in biosensing, drug delivery, therapeutic interventions, and further studies on electromagnetic disruption of MR.
