Harnessing New Technologies to Plan Less Car-Centric Cities: Insights from a Bicycling Exhibition

Primary tabs

A team of urban planners and computer scientists at Arizona State University created an immersive exhibition on bicycling in Tempe, AZ. The exhibition used Virtual Reality, Lidar data visualization, GIS mapping, first-person-view videos, and traditional information displays. Which of these methods is most effective in fostering empathy toward bicyclists?

Hosted by the Center for Spatial Planning Analytics and Visualization - https://cspav.gatech.edu/ - at the GT School of City and Regional Planning, this talk by Hue-Tam Jamme explores how art and science combined are used to encourage bicycling.

This guest lecture by Hue-Tam Jamme, assistant professor in the School of Geographical Sciences and Urban Planning at Arizona State University, will showcase the data and technologies used in the exhibition and analyze visitor reactions, including feedback from decision-makers, community members, bicyclists, and non-bicyclists. The discussion will also explore how emerging technologies can contribute to planning less car-centric cities.
