Abstract:
Lithium-ion battery technology has brought about a revolution in portable energy storage, spurring the rapid growth of the electric vehicle (EV) market. This growth has focused attention on other urgent needs for electrified transportation, including long-range EVs, electric freight trucking, and electric aviation. Here, I will introduce my group’s research on new materials for high-energy batteries for electromobility. Our research is focused on developing and characterizing materials for solid-state batteries, high-performance lithium-ion and sodium-ion batteries, and batteries for grid storage applications. In addition, battery manufacturing processes will be discussed, and I will provide thoughts on opportunities for university R&D at the intersection of battery materials and manufacturing.
