Georgia Tech MS Analytics Students Lead the Way in Addressing Homelessness

Primary tabs

Georgia Tech's analytics students took center stage by securing top honors in the 2023 Data for Hope Competition, providing data-driven insights into homelessness trends and innovative solutions.

Congratulations to the MS Analytics teams who achieved outstanding results at the competition, generously sponsored by Atlytics! The competition saw our teams excel, securing First Place, Second Place, and an Honorable Mention for their remarkable efforts.

The ATLytiCS 2023 Data for Hope™ Competition brought together 78 dedicated individuals for a week-long initiative aimed at delving into data to gain deeper insights into homelessness trends and the pandemic's impact. Moreover, it aimed to propose innovative solutions to pave the way for a future with a reduced unhoused population.

According to the estimates provided by the organization Partners for HOME, the number of unhoused individuals sleeping on the streets of Atlanta in 2022 stood at 2,017. This figure signifies a significant 37% decrease from the 3,240 unhoused individuals counted by the nonprofit in 2020 as per the PITReport2022.

Notably, five years ago, ATLytiCS conducted a highly successful competition focused on this very issue. In 2023, the competition sought to build upon the previous findings and shed light on the evolving situation of homelessness in our city.

The exceptional individuals who contributed to this achievement are as follows:

First Place:

  • Cassidy Gasteiger

  • Nikos Kavouras

  • Samaksh Gulati

Second Place:

  • Hilary Present

  • Chandler Schneider

  • Henry Wallace

  • Divij Mishra

Honorable Mention:

  • Anvita Brahma

  • Prathusha Dinesh

  • Saksham Sudershan

  • Spriha Mishra

These talented individuals, representing Georgia Tech, have not only showcased their prowess but have also exemplified the university's commitment to addressing critical societal challenges. We applaud their outstanding achievements and look forward to witnessing their continued contributions to both Georgia Tech and the broader community as they work towards a better future for all.
