College of Design Smart Cities Panel

Primary tabs

Future cities development is becoming data-driven in the context of emerging technologies such as the internet of things, data science, and urban automation. Facing climate challenges, radical urban transitions, and impacts of technologies on the human environment, how will city design and technology enable communities to develop a more sustainable, resilient, and socially inclusive future by enhancing their quality of urban living? Globally connected primate cities, including Tokyo, Singapore, and Atlanta are experimenting with new models of smart cities as living laboratories to reduce urban carbon emissions to net zero by 2050 and to meet U.N. Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). The 2023 Smart Cities Systems Design Panel at Georgia Tech College of Design invites faculty and international speakers to share their experiences and novel approaches being tested in the above three cities. The panel discussion will explore how these new thoughts are applied to designing smart communities, smart campuses, and smart cities by incorporating urban design, data analytics, system thinking, and digital technologies.
