Abstract: The objective of the proposed research is to develop analytical methods that will enable the study of inverter behavior during steady-state and transient operations in a grid rich with Inverter Based Resources (IBRs). At the core of these IBRs are power-electronic inverters that operate on fast-switching and high-bandwidth controls that can widely vary between manufacturers and technology generations. The existing methods are limited to validate interoperability exhibited by individual inverters during steady-state and transient conditions. This research proposes analytical methods which will be incorporated in a validation device to monitor the compliance of individual inverters to operational principles in an IBR-rich grid, which would in-turn enable universal interoperability.
