Georgia Tech Observatory: Lunar Eclipse

On Tuesday, the Georgia Tech Observatory will be open from 4 a.m. EST until sunrise, and will stream the partial and total lunar eclipse on YouTube via our Aloha Telescope program.

Lunar Eclipse Timeline for Atlanta:

  • 4:09 am Tue, Nov 8    Partial Eclipse begins
  • 5:16 am Tue, Nov 8    Total Eclipse begins 
    (The Earth's shadow now covers all of the Moon.)
  • 5:59 am Tue, Nov 8    Maximum Eclipse    
    (Moon is closest to the center of the shadow.)
  • 6:41 am Tue, Nov 8    Total Eclipse ends    
    (The Earth's shadow covers only part of the Moon.)
  • 7:10 am Tue, Nov 8    The Moon sets            
    However, the Maui telescope stream will see the entire eclipse.
  • 7:49 am Tue, Nov 8    Partial Eclipse ends    
    However, the Maui Aloha Telescope stream will see the entire eclipse.
