Employee Resource Groups Transition to GTHR

Primary tabs

Beginning this fall, the seven Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) will transition from Institute Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (IDEI) back to Georgia Tech Human Resources (GTHR), where they originated.

ERGs were created almost a decade ago to support Georgia Tech’s efforts to build community and ensure that employees experience a greater sense of belonging. The voluntary employee associations, organized around common dimensions of diversity, were designed to offer forums where like-minded employees can enhance their employment experience and build community with those who share similar interests or identities.

The ERGs will reside in the new Employee Experience Department that combines three teams: employee engagement; communications; and employer branding.

The ERGs provide essential engagement opportunities and strong connections to the Institute Strategic Plan (ISP), Diversity Equity & Inclusion Plan, and health and well-being initiatives. The transition also nicely aligns with GTHR Transformation efforts and employee engagement practices.

“I am impressed by the foundation and the work that has been done with the ERGs over the past decade and remain committed to continuing a strong partnership with the IDEI team throughout this process,” said Skye Duckett, Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer of GTHR.

In the weeks that follow, GTHR will initiate a strategic planning process to ensure the strengths of the ERGs remain intact, while also imagining what the future can hold. The campus community is encouraged to participate in the visioning process and can expect additional information throughout the semester.

“We have been honored to work alongside our ERG leadership teams to create spaces where our employees can build meaningful connections, find community among peers with similar interests, and grow together,” said Archie Ervin, vice president for Institute Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and Chief Diversity Officer for the Institute. “We are excited for the new opportunities this realignment will provide, as GTHR continues to expand upon its commitment to improve the employee experience for all Georgia Tech faculty and staff.”
