Abstract: The objective of this research is the development of novel RFID systems and techniques for applications in localization, positioning and sensing. This was accomplished via a multi-faceted approach which included the development of a new system to overcome known read-range limitations in the interrogation of legacy RFID systems at 5.8GHz, the development of a new class of millimeter wave RFID tags operating at 24GHz for use in high accuracy localization and positioning systems and finally the development of a brand new multi-band localization strategy for high-accuracy that surpasses that achievable with the integration of a single continuous bandwidth.
