Public Policy Ph.D. Candidate, ETHICx Staff Contribute Book Chapter on AI Ethics Documents

Primary tabs

Daniel Schiff, a Ph.D. candidate in the School of Public Policy, was the lead author on a chapter in the new book Codes of Ethics and Ethical Guidelines. The chapter’s co-authors include Justin Biddle, director of the Ethics, Technology, and Human Interaction Center (ETHICx); and Jason Borenstein, another member of the ETHICx leadership team. ETHICx is jointly hosted in the College of Computing and the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts.

The chapter is titled “Global AI Ethics Documents: What They Reveal About Motivations, Practices, and Policies.” In it, Schiff and his co-authors discuss why it is that so many organizations have developed documents on the ethics of artificial intelligence in recent years. They then go on to theorize what said documents can reveal about the motivations, practices, and policies in the field.
