The new year is always a good time to think hopeful thoughts, so, to celebrate Science Fiction Day, Jan. 2, we asked the Science Fiction Studies faculty in the Ivan Allen College to offer some sci-fi books and movies positively brimming with hope. 

Their recommendations range from early 20th century stories in which ray guns are put to their very best use to a distant-future terraforming story gone terribly wrong, then ultimately right.
