A private mission to Venus

External News Details

Right now, space missions are primarily funded by government agencies like NASA. But a privately funded mission to Venus is expected to launch in 2023. Privately funded interplanetary missions could fundamentally change how science is done, opening the door to new avenues of exploration. The Venus mission is planned by scientists from Georgia Tech, MIT, Purdue University, Caltech, and the Planetary Science Institute, and it will make use of a probe sent to space by a Rocket Lab spacecraft. Christopher E. Carr, an assistant professor in the Daniel Guggenheim School of Aerospace Engineering with a secondary appointment in the School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, is on the core team for the Venus mission.
