Abstract: The objective of the proposed research is to design and experimentally verify advanced technologies to enhance the adaptability of fiber-wireless integration for next generation RANs. It is focused on the mobile fronthaul and consists of three parts. Firstly, a hybrid analog/digital radio-ove-fiber (RoF) transmission system is studied so that the network can accommodate both RoF formats. Secondly, techniques applied to digital RoF are investigated, aiming at being adaptable to various device impairments, including bandwidth limitations, laser phase noise and intensity noise. Thirdly, the adaptability to channel conditions is introduced in the cross-domain resource management in an analog RoF system, where resources in both optical and RF domains are allocated cooperatively.
