Abstract: The objective of the proposed research is to develop software policies for mitigating the impact of hardware errors on near-term quantum computers. While quantum computers promise computational advantages for many applications, real quantum devices are noisy and their error-rates are orders of magnitude higher than what can be tolerated at the application-level. Consequently, programs executed on quantum hardware encounter errors during computations which result in poor application fidelity. The goal of the proposed research is to develop compiler optimizations that generate highly optimized machine-level instruction schedule that improves application fidelity by reducing the impact of specific types of errors.
