Unveiling Extensive Groundwater Systems Beneath Oceans and Ice Sheets Using Electromagnetic Geophysics
Groundwater systems hidden beneath oceans and ice sheets impact modern hydrologic processes and hold information about past Earth environments. These hydrologic systems are likely common features, yet the distribution of groundwater and its influence on glacial and marine environments remains poorly constrained due to remote/challenging locations limiting observations.
In my talk, I will discuss how I use electromagnetic geophysical methods to characterize a fresh groundwater system offshore the U.S. Atlantic margin and a salty groundwater system below the West Antarctic Ice Sheet.
