EXCEL AT GEORGIA TECH & PRE-TEACHING ADVISING EDUCATION INTERNSHIP

Excel at Georgia Techand GT Pre-Teaching Advising, bothhoused in CEISMC,areseeking an education intern for the fall 2021 semester. This temporary appointment will combine curriculum development, lesson plancreation,co-teaching of coursesand other academic-related responsibilities under supervision and mentorship ofan Excel faculty member. Excel at Georgia Tech is designed to be inclusive of students with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD), ultimately leading to gainful employment, independence, and lifelong learning. The intern will support the academic and practical skill components for Excel, a four-year certificate program approved and administered by the Georgia Tech Professional Education.Pre-Teaching Advising supports undergrads, grad students, post-docs, and alumni interested in pursuing K-12 education as a career, an academic interest, or as part of their community engagement.

TIME COMMITMENT & PAYT

his internship is 10-15 hours per week. In addition to an hourly pay rate, interns who work 10 to 19 hours per week and can earn 3 audit credit hours through the GT Career Center if they register for their internship.You do not pay tuition or fees on theaudit hours, and the audit hours are academic placeholders towards full-time student status. For example, if you do a 3-audit hour internship, you only have totake 9 credit hours to achieve full-time student status. If registered, the internship will be on your transcript. To register for an internship, go to: http://career.gatech.edu/internshipsThe selected intern will begin paid training on August 16, 2021 and assist with pre-planning for the semester. The last day of the internship is December 7, 2021.DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIESPrincipal duties include planning, assisting in teaching EXCEL courses, grading, and helping students with coursework outside of the classroom setting during the fall semester of 2021. The teaching area for this position will require developing students' social and independent living skills, one or more of the skills areas of general education, and the ability to teach students with I/DD. The successful candidate will support the development of curriculum and course content for Excel.

SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE

We desire an undergraduate from any major whois highlymotivatedto learn more about teaching, curriculum development, and assessment in a hands-on experiential setting. Thecandidate should exhibit excellent teamwork and communication skills and a demonstrated commitment to the education and development of students with I/DD. The successful candidate will also engage in any other necessary activities to implement and institutionalize Excel.
